What is eDPI?
eDPI means effective dots per inch. It combines your mouse’s DPI setting with your in-game mouse sensitivity into one number. Players use it to compare mouse sensitivity setups in the same game, even when they use different mouse DPI settings.
How to calculate eDPI
For games that use a decimal sensitivity value, multiply mouse DPI by in-game sensitivity:
eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity
Example: 800 DPI × 0.5 sensitivity = 400 eDPI.
For Fortnite, which displays mouse sensitivity as a percentage, convert the percentage to a decimal first:
Fortnite eDPI = mouse DPI × (sensitivity percentage ÷ 100)
Example: 800 DPI × (5 ÷ 100) = 40 eDPI.
How to use this eDPI calculator
- Select the game you play.
- Enter your mouse DPI from your mouse software.
- Enter the in-game mouse sensitivity shown in that game’s settings. For Fortnite, enter the percentage number, such as 5 for 5%.
- Select Calculate eDPI to view the result and calculation.
Which games does this calculator support?
This calculator includes VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, legacy Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG: Battlegrounds, THE FINALS, and Marvel Rivals. Game titles can have different sensitivity settings for hip-fire, aiming down sights (ADS), scopes, or individual weapons. This calculator uses the main sensitivity value you enter; it does not automatically include ADS or scope multipliers.
CS:GO is listed for legacy reference; Counter-Strike 2 is the current Counter-Strike title. For Call of Duty, use the main mouse sensitivity for the specific PC title you play. Do not use an ADS multiplier or controller sensitivity as the base mouse sensitivity.
Does the same eDPI mean the same sensitivity in every game?
No. eDPI is a useful comparison within one game, but games can apply different sensitivity scales and turn rates. For cross-game matching, use a sensitivity converter that has verified game-specific conversion data, or measure the mouse distance needed for a full 360-degree turn in each game. This calculator does not claim that matching eDPI numbers across different games produces identical aim.
Important: eDPI is intended for comparing sensitivity within the same game. The same eDPI number does not guarantee the same turning speed across different games because their sensitivity scales can differ.
What is a good eDPI?
There is no single best eDPI for every player. A useful setting depends on the game, mouse control, available mousepad space, aiming style, and personal preference. Use other players’ eDPI values as context rather than rules, and make small adjustments while testing your aim in-game.
Frequently asked questions
Is eDPI the same as DPI?
No. DPI is the mouse's sensitivity setting at the hardware level. eDPI combines that DPI value with the in-game sensitivity number.
What is the eDPI for 800 DPI and 0.5 sensitivity?
For a game using decimal sensitivity, the result is 400 eDPI: 800 × 0.5 = 400.
Why does Fortnite use a different formula?
Fortnite commonly displays mouse sensitivity as a percentage. The percentage must be divided by 100 before multiplying it by DPI. For example, 5% is entered as 5 and treated as 0.05 in the calculation.
Can I use this for controller sensitivity?
No. This tool calculates mouse eDPI from mouse DPI and in-game mouse sensitivity. Controller sensitivity uses different settings and is not represented by this formula.
Does this calculator include ADS or scope sensitivity?
No. It calculates the base sensitivity entered in the form. If you use a separate ADS or scope multiplier, that can change your aiming sensitivity and should be considered separately.
Is there an official recommended eDPI for each game?
There is no universal official eDPI target that applies to every player. Professional-player statistics and community ranges are observational references, not official requirements or guarantees of better performance.
